Shadows of Sounds

Shadows of Sounds
The members of the City of Glasgow Orchestra are preparing to perform, but little do they know that they are set to be outplayed by the mysterious events happening backstage.

When George Millar, the orchestra’s leader, is brutally murdered in his dressing room, his colleagues are shocked. But the show must go on. Enter DCI Lorimer and psychologist Solomon Brightman to investigate. What they uncover is a series of irrevocably tangled relationships between the orchestra members. Up until his death Millar had been involved in homosexual relationships with several other orchestra members and was well known for playing his lovers off against one another – but were his controversial dalliances really enough to incite cold-blooded and calculated murder?

Shadows of Sounds sees the welcome return of Lorimer and Brightman, Alex Gray’s lateral thinking double act, who take the reader on a thrilling journey from the crescendos of musical excellence to the base notes of human envy.

‘A dark page-turner which firmly establishes the existential DCI Lorimer as a real threat to Inspector Rebus … tautly plotted with well developed characters and an engaging style’
